Army Public School,
Darjeeling started functioning w.e.f. 12 November 1990 at Katapahar
with classes I & II having a total strength of 42 students and 3 teachers.
The approval for opening of
the school was received from Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), Army HQ in
July 1990, under the supervision of HQ 123 Mtn Bde. A Managing Committee has
been established with a view to afford maximum freedom to co-ordinate the day
to day running of the Army Public School, Darjeeling.
PHILOSOPHY
Army school is a learning community of motivated students and staff engaged in realizing their full hidden human potential. Our mission is to blend the educational and technical fundamentals of education along with deep respect for cultural heritage and Indian traditions with advanced scientific learning tools and techniques to foster academic excellence, physical fitness, psychological and spiritual health and social consciousness. We believe in imparting quality education at affordable cost to the children of Army personnel including Ex- Army personnel and a limited number of civilians to prepare the students for All India Secondary School Examination of the CBSE with a common syllabi thus enabling the children of personnel under posting eligible for mid session admission . we also believe in enabling an individual to develop himself into a complete human being and thus we provide a new direction in education and empower each individual to be compassionate, responsive to our culture and heritage and excel in academics.
CURRICULUM:-
Primary
The main areas that the primary school curriculum addresses are listening, speaking , reading and writing skills, building a strong foundation in mathematics, an introduction to the subjects of environmental education, a grasp over the second language i .e. Hindi / English nurturing an interest in arts and craft ,music and dance and also emphasis on activity based learning/ integrated learning, value education , physical education and sports.
Middle
Teachers, students and parents continue to be partners in the learning process as they explore and make connections across subjects , develop critical thinking and apply their knowledge to real- life situations. The acquisition of new knowledge is made more meaningful through opportunities to apply it. Projects , exhibitions , presentations and field trips are very important at this stage to focus on their problems solving skills . The curriculum encourages peer learning and appreciation of differences and appreciate diversity which is an important feature of Army School.
SENIOR
The primary objective is to provide a solid and unshakable foundation in the core subject areas of science mathematics social science and languages. It is not limited to text book learning alone instead our experiential curriculum provides hand on learning, teaches macro concepts , encourages free expression and develops creative and critical thinking faculties through research and activity based learning . As per the board guidelines , the prime focus of our curriculum is on innovations in teaching- learning methodologies by devising student friendly and student centered perspectives. In order to prepare the students for the board exam, classes ix and x are given extra classes and free coaching classes during winters.
